3/1/2024 0 Comments High school production synonymHave each student keep a notebook of new words. You can get a set of 32 Dictionary Dig Task Cards here. Example: Find a word that begins with “s,” is two syllables long, has double letters, and is an adjective. This one is fun because students enjoy finding more than one word to fit the clues and sharing their words with each other. The difference is that the clues are broader, and many words could be a correct answer. Play Dictionary Dig. This game is similar to Mystery Word in that you give clues and the students look for a word.My second letter is an “o.” I am three syllables long. For Example: I begin with the fourth letter of the alphabet. As students hear the clues, they look for the word in the dictionary until they have narrowed it down to just one. Play Mystery Word. To play this game, give a series of clues.*Bonus – Choose words from an upcoming vocabulary test for this game! This would be a good one to do in teams everyone has his or her own dictionary, but the winner wins a point for the whole team rather than individually. The first person to call out the correct page number wins the round. When you call out a word, the student(s) must find the word as quickly as possible. Give each student or pair of students a dictionary. You can make one up yourself, or get this one for free. Send your students on a Dictionary Scavenger Hunt. They are, of course, great for looking up words and you will use them to teach dictionary skills, but there are also other great things you can do with these rather large volumes of words. Hopefully, you’ve got dictionaries, maybe even a class set. Are you looking for some fun activities for National Dictionary Day? It’s October 16th, which was Noah Webster’s (the father of the American dictionary) birthday! However, it always seemed to lack something I could never put my finger on. I’ve searched for the perfect oatmeal raisin recipe for years and the Quaker one was the only thing that seemed to come close to the type of cookie I like. Let them sit on the hot baking sheet for five minutes before transferring them to a rack to cool. Bake them for 10 to 12 minutes (your baking time will vary, depending on your oven and how cold the cookies were going in), taking them out when golden at the edges but still a little undercooked-looking on top. The cookies should be two inches apart on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Either way, heat oven to 350☏ (175☌) before you scoop the cookies, so that it’s fully heated when you’re ready to put them in. You could also bake them right away, if you’re impatient, but I do find that they end up slighly less thick. Stir in the oats, raisins and walnuts, if using them.Īt this point you can either chill the dough for a bit in the fridge and then scoop it, or scoop the cookies onto a sheet and then chill the whole tray before baking them. In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt together. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, egg and vanilla until smooth. (It’s got oats and dried fruit, right? Like granola!) I, uh, don’t always succeed. And sometimes, though not this one, I add chopped walnuts because they were made to go together.Īnd then I try not to eat them for breakfast. I use only brown sugar (instead of a mix of brown and white). It never has enough raisins in it, so I up them. I find it too sweet, so I dial back the sugar. I start with the standard recipe on every can of Quaker oats and then start making it better. Nope, my oatmeal raisin cookies demand their own texture, and one I can’t get from those other recipes. Just to confuse, this is unlike other oatmeal cookie recipes on this site, the crunchier chocolate chip pecan version and the thick but shattery, salty white chocolate version. A crisp edge is always welcome, but the rest of it must be thick and chewy. I have very specific tastes in oatmeal raisin cookies. These cookies keep well at room temperature for about 4 days, and freeze well for up to 3 months.I woke up Sunday morning craving oatmeal raisin cookies something fierce, so I tried to make myself eat oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar in it for breakfast but that didn’t work, and so there was nothing left to do but to bake cookies.Let the cookies rest on the hot baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring them with a metal spatula to a cooling rack to cool completely. Bake until the cookies are golden at the edges but still just a little underdone in the center, 11 to 13 minutes. Chill any remaining dough while you bake the first batch. Use a 1-tablespoon cookie dough scoop or two spoons to scoop heaping tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving 1 to 2 inches of space around each one. For cookies that stay perfectly mounded, chill the dough for 15 minutes before proceeding.Add the chocolate chips and stir until the chocolate chips are evenly incorporated. Add the peanut butter and whisk until the dough is smooth and the peanut butter has completely blended into the batter (you might need to switch to a big spoon toward the end, which you’ll need for mixing in the chocolate chips anyway).Whisk in the vanilla and salt until blended. In a medium bowl, combine the coconut sugar and eggs and whisk until smooth.Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. |
